Running the report

1
Open Reports and choose Menu item taxes under the Menu group.
2
Pick the menu you want to check in Select a menu, then the sales channel in Select a sales channel.
3
Run the report. You get one page section per list: first any Tax exempt menu items, then the Taxed menu items grid with the tax worked out for each item.
TipCheck a new or draft menu with this report before it goes live. A missing tax shows up straight away as an item in the tax exempt list or as a tax column that is blank.

Report options

Select a menu

The menu whose items and prices you want to check. Each choice shows the menu name followed by its status, so you can tell a draft from the menu that is live now. You can pick a draft, a scheduled menu, the current live menu or an older menu.

Summer menu - Scheduled for activation on Mon 9 Nov 26 at 06:00
Winter menu - Draft
Autumn menu - Old Menu From Mon 5 Oct 26 at 06:00 until Mon 26 Oct 26 at 13:19

Only the menus that belong to your store are listed, and at most the ten most relevant ones.

Select a sales channel

The sales channel whose prices you want to see, for example dine in or delivery. The same menu can carry different prices per sales channel, so the report shows one channel at a time. Only sales channels that are switched on for your brand are listed.

RememberYou must choose both options. The report shows one menu and one sales channel per run. To compare channels, run it once for each.

No dates: the report shows the menu as it is set up now

This report has no date range. It shows the prices on the menu you pick, and the tax rates that apply today.

  1. Selected parameters: the menu and sales channel you chose.
  2. Tax exempt menu items: items that carry no tax, with their price. Only shown when you have such items.
  3. Taxed menu items: a grid with price before tax, each tax added and price after tax, one row per item.

The footer shows the brand and store, who ran the report and when, the report version and the page number.

Selected parameters

A panel under the header repeats your choices, so a printed or saved copy always says which menu and sales channel it covers. Under it a grey bar names the sales channel, for example Dine In Sales Channel.

Tax exempt menu items

Every item that has no tax set up on it, with the price you charge. If every item on the menu carries a tax, this list does not appear. Use it to spot an item that should be taxed but is not.

1 Menu item name

Category, a dash and the item name, in alphabetical order. Each item appears once, even when it carries more than one tax.

2 Price excl taxes

The item's price on the chosen menu and sales channel, before any tax. An item with no price on that sales channel has a blank price and blank tax columns.

3 One column per tax

Each tax in use appears as a column headed by its name and its rate in brackets, in alphabetical order by tax name. The figure is the amount of that tax on the item. An item that does not carry that tax has a blank cell. The rate is the one in force today.

4 Price incl taxes

The price before tax plus every tax amount in that row.

Blank cell
The item does not carry that tax, or it has no price on this sales channel.

Frequently asked questions

Why is an item's price and tax blank?

The item is on the menu but has no price on the sales channel you chose. Set its price for that sales channel on the menu, or run the report for the channel that does carry a price.

Why is an item in the tax exempt list when it should be taxed?

No tax is set up on that item. Add the tax to the item on the menu, then run the report again to confirm it moves to the taxed grid.

Why is an item missing from the report?

The item or its category is archived, or the item is not on the menu and sales channel you picked. Items must be on that menu with a price entry for that sales channel to appear.

The tax rate in the column heading is not the one I expected. Why?

The report uses the rate in force right now. A rate change that you scheduled for a future date is not used until that date arrives. A rate that has already taken effect replaces the older one, even for an older menu.

I picked an older menu. Are the taxes the ones from back then?

No. Prices come from the menu you pick, but the taxes on each item are the item's current tax setup, and the rates are today's rates. The report checks what you have set up now. It is not a record of what applied on a past date.

Why does Price incl taxes sometimes differ by a cent from my till?

The report works out each tax at full precision and shows the result to two decimals, so adding the displayed figures by hand can be a cent out. Compare the final price against the price on your menu.

Why does an item with two taxes appear only once?

Each item has one row. Every tax it carries is shown in its own column on that row, and the price after tax includes all of them.
