# Sales - Sales Summary

One page that breaks your store's turnover down every useful way: by sales channel, device, transaction type, cashier, hour of day, day of week, date, packaging type and payment type, with the number of transactions and the average sale for each. For store managers and franchisees who want to see where, when and how the store is selling.

Updated Thu 22 Oct 2026

## Running the report

1

Open **Reports** for your store and choose **Sales Summary** under **Sales**.

2

Choose your start and end dates, and whether to see figures including or excluding VAT (see Report options).

3

Run the report. You get the totals at the top, then two columns of small tables, one per way of slicing your sales, then a list comparing every average sale with your overall average.

**Tip**Run it for a full week to see your busiest days and hours side by side, then click a **Turnover** or **Average** heading to sort that table from highest to lowest.

## Report options

### Select your start date / end date

The first and last trading day to include. Your store's close of trade time is used, so a sale after midnight but before close of trade counts towards the previous trading day. Both default to today.

### Show sales figures

Inclusive (Brand default)

Exclusive

Whether every rand figure on the report **includes** or **excludes** VAT (value-added tax or your country's equivalent sales tax). Your brand chooses which one is the default: it's always first in the list, marked **(Brand default)**, and already selected when you open the report. If your brand has chosen exclusive, the list reads **Exclusive (Brand default)** and **Inclusive**.

Choose **Inclusive** to compare with your cash-ups, which count the money customers actually paid. Choose **Exclusive** to look at your sales without the VAT you pay over to your tax authority. The line under the date, the **Turnover** and **Sale payment** headings and the totals all tell you which one you're looking at, for example **Turnover (incl VAT)**.

**What changes and what doesn't**Only the rand figures change: turnover, averages, sale payments and the overall average. The number of transactions, the percentages of turnover and the rows you see stay the same. Each sale's VAT is taken off at the VAT on that sale's own items, so a sale of zero-rated items shows the same amount either way.

## The report at a glance

Bob's Burgers Times Square

Sales summary report

From Mon 12 Oct 2026 00:00 until Sun 18 Oct 2026 23:59

**All sales figures are including VAT.**

The dates are trading days in your store's local time. If your store's close of trade is not midnight, the line ends with an **\***, the period runs from close of trade on the first day to close of trade after the last day, and a note at the foot of the page explains it.

1. Totals: total turnover, number of transactions and the overall average sale.
2. Channels, devices and types: **Sales channel**, **Device type** (left column) and **Transaction type** (right column).
3. Date, day and hour: **Hour of day**, **Day of week** (left) and **Date** (right).
4. Cashiers and packaging: **Cashier name** (right) and **Packaging type** (left).
5. Payment type: what your sales were paid with (right column).
6. Average sales deviation: every average sale above compared with your overall average.
7. Voids note: how much was voided in the period, with a link to the Voids report.

The left column holds **Sales channel**, **Device type**, **Hour of day**, **Day of week** and **Packaging type**; the right column holds **Date**, **Cashier name**, **Transaction type** and **Payment type**. The examples below are one week at Bob's Burgers Times Square, including VAT.

## Totals

The headline figures for the whole period.

| Totals | |
| --- | --- |
| Total turnover (incl VAT): 1 | 84 512.40 |
| \# transactions: 2 | 1 236 |
| Overall average transaction size (incl VAT): 3 | 68.38 |

### 1 Total turnover

The value of every completed sale in the period, after discounts, including or excluding VAT as chosen. Tips are not turnover. Voided sales are left out (see Voids note). In **Exclusive** mode the same week reads **Total turnover (excl VAT): 73 489.04**.

### 2 # transactions

The number of completed sales. Each sale counts once, however many items or payments it had.

### 3 Overall average transaction size

Total turnover divided by the number of transactions: 84 512.40 ÷ 1 236 = 68.38. Every average further down is compared with this figure.

## Channels, devices and types

Every breakdown table has the same columns. Each one adds up to the totals at the top (except **Payment type**, see below).

| Sales channel | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| Counter | 49 816.40 | 812 | 61.35 | 58.95% |
| Uber Eats | 23 954.80 | 298 | 80.39 | 28.34% |
| Online order | 10 741.20 | 126 | 85.25 | 12.71% |

Value

The sales channel, device, type, cashier, hour, day, date or payment type.

Turnover (incl VAT) / (excl VAT)

The turnover for that value. The heading says which VAT basis you chose.

\# trans

The number of sales.

Average

Turnover divided by # trans: the average sale for that value.

T/O %

That value's share of the table's turnover. The column adds up to 100%.

### Colour coding

The **Turnover**, **# trans** and **Average** cells are shaded within each table: green for the highest, amber in the middle, red for the lowest. It's a quick way to spot your strongest and weakest values; red does not mean something is wrong.

HighestLowest

### Sorting

The note **Click the column headings to change the sort order** sits under the totals. In the report viewer, click **Value**, **Turnover**, **# trans** or **Average** in any table to sort it by that column; click again to reverse the order.

| Device type | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| POS | 44 018.60 | 742 | 59.32 | 52.09% |
| Kiosk | 5 797.80 | 70 | 82.83 | 6.86% |
| Integration | 23 954.80 | 298 | 80.39 | 28.34% |
| Online ordering | 10 741.20 | 126 | 85.25 | 12.71% |

**Device type** is what the sale was rung up on: your till, a self-order kiosk, an online ordering page, or an integration that sends orders in from a delivery partner.

| Transaction type | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| Sale | 84 431.40 | 1 228 | 68.76 | 99.90% |
| Staff meal | 81.00 | 8 | 10.12 | 0.10% |

**Transaction type** is the kind of sale as set up for your store, for example a normal sale or a staff meal.

## Date, day and hour

| Date | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| Mon 12 Oct 2026 | 9 812.40 | 148 | 66.30 | 11.61% |
| Tue 13 Oct 2026 | 9 104.70 | 139 | 65.50 | 10.77% |
| Wed 14 Oct 2026 | 10 230.10 | 152 | 67.30 | 12.10% |
| Thu 15 Oct 2026 | 11 184.90 | 166 | 67.38 | 13.23% |
| Fri 16 Oct 2026 | 14 902.60 | 214 | 69.64 | 17.63% |
| Sat 17 Oct 2026 | 16 004.30 | 231 | 69.28 | 18.94% |
| Sun 18 Oct 2026 | 13 273.40 | 186 | 71.36 | 15.71% |

**Date** lists each trading day, oldest first. To fit the page it shows the **10 most recent** trading days only. If your period is longer, everything before them is added together on one line, **Previous dates**, so the table still adds up to the total.

| Day of week | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| Monday | 9 812.40 | 148 | 66.30 | 11.61% |
| Tuesday | 9 104.70 | 139 | 65.50 | 10.77% |
| Wednesday | 10 230.10 | 152 | 67.30 | 12.10% |
| Thursday | 11 184.90 | 166 | 67.38 | 13.23% |
| Friday | 14 902.60 | 214 | 69.64 | 17.63% |
| Saturday | 16 004.30 | 231 | 69.28 | 18.94% |
| Sunday | 13 273.40 | 186 | 71.36 | 15.71% |

**Day of week** adds up every Monday, every Tuesday and so on in the period, Monday first. Over a month you see which day of the week is strongest on average, not a single date. Days are trading days, so a sale at 01:00 on a Saturday morning before a 02:00 close of trade counts as Friday.

| Hour of day | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| 10 to 11 | 2 110.40 | 38 | 55.54 | 2.50% |
| 11 to 12 | 5 874.30 | 92 | 63.85 | 6.95% |
| 12 to 13 | 11 902.80 | 168 | 70.85 | 14.08% |
| 13 to 14 | 10 488.20 | 151 | 69.46 | 12.41% |
| 14 to 15 | 5 501.60 | 84 | 65.50 | 6.51% |
| 15 to 16 | 3 912.50 | 61 | 64.14 | 4.63% |
| 16 to 17 | 5 230.70 | 79 | 66.21 | 6.19% |
| 17 to 18 | 9 984.10 | 142 | 70.31 | 11.81% |
| 18 to 19 | 12 810.60 | 176 | 72.79 | 15.16% |
| 19 to 20 | 10 114.90 | 139 | 72.77 | 11.97% |
| 20 to 21 | 5 097.30 | 77 | 66.20 | 6.03% |
| 21 to 22 | 1 485.00 | 29 | 51.21 | 1.76% |

**Hour of day** uses the clock time the sale was rung up, in your store's local time: **12 to 13** is every sale from 12:00 to 12:59, on every day in the period.

## Cashiers and packaging

| Cashier name | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| Alex Jones | 20 617.30 | 354 | 58.24 | 24.40% |
| Sam Smith | 23 401.30 | 388 | 60.31 | 27.69% |
| Unknown | 40 493.80 | 494 | 81.97 | 47.91% |

**Cashier name** is the person logged in on the till when the sale was rung up. Sales with no cashier, such as kiosk, online and delivery-partner orders, show as **Unknown**.

| Packaging type | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Turnover (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | T/O % |
| Eat in | 26 210.90 | 402 | 65.20 | 31.01% |
| Take away | 58 301.50 | 834 | 69.91 | 68.99% |

**Packaging type** splits sales into eat-in and take-away, as chosen on the order.

## Payment type

| Payment type \* | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Sale payment (incl VAT) | \# trans | Average | Pmnt % |
| Account - Uber Eats | 23 954.80 | 298 | 80.39 | 28.34% |
| Card | 38 173.60 | 612 | 62.38 | 45.17% |
| Cash | 11 642.80 | 248 | 46.95 | 13.78% |
| Online payment | 10 741.20 | 126 | 85.25 | 12.71% |

How your sales were paid. The heading reads **Sale payment (incl VAT)** or **(excl VAT)** and the table is marked **\***, with the note **Some sales might have more than one payment and they exclude tips.** under it.

Sale payment

The part of each payment that paid for the sale. Tips and change are taken off, so the column adds up to your turnover.

\# trans

The number of payments, not sales. A sale paid partly by card and partly in cash counts once under each, which is why this table can have more transactions than the totals.

Pmnt %

That payment type's share of the sale payments.

Account - *channel*

Sales put on account and settled later, for example orders paid by a delivery partner, shown per sales channel.

Unpaid

Sales still open and unpaid. They're counted in # trans with no payment amount.

**Exclusive mode**Customers pay including VAT. With **Exclusive** chosen, each payment is reduced by the same proportion as the sale it paid for, so the table still adds up to your turnover excluding VAT. These amounts will then not match your cash-up, which always counts what was actually paid.

## Average sales deviation

Every value from the tables above in one list, with its average sale and how far that average is above or below your overall average. It's sorted from the highest average to the lowest and runs in two columns. A few rows from the top and bottom of the example week:

| Average sales deviation % from overall average of R68.38 1 | | | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Value | Average | % deviation | Value | Average | % deviation |
| Sales channel - Online order | 85.25 | 24.68% | Hour of day - 10 to 11 | 55.54 | \-18.77% |
| Device type - Online ordering | 85.25 | 24.68% | Hour of day - 21 to 22 | 51.21 | \-25.11% |
| Payment type - Online payment | 85.25 | 24.68% | Payment type - Cash | 46.95 | \-31.34% |
| Device type - Kiosk | 82.83 | 21.14% | Transaction type - Staff meal | 10.12 | \-85.20% |

### 1 Reading it

The heading shows your overall average sale (68.38 in the example). **% deviation** is how far each average is from it: **Sales channel - Online order** averaged 85.25, which is 24.68 above. A positive figure means bigger sales than usual, a negative figure smaller ones. Use it to spot where customers spend more per visit (a channel, a time of day, a cashier who upsells) and where they spend less.

## Voids note

If anything was voided in the period, the end of the report says so:

| **Voids note:** <br>There are R 245.50 worth of voided invoices for this date range that are not included on this report. <br> <br>Click here to view the voids report for more details. |
| --- |

Voided sales are never part of the turnover above. Click the note to open the Voids report for the same dates. The voided amount is always shown including VAT; in **Exclusive** mode the note says so: **R 245.50 (including VAT)**.

## Frequently asked questions

Why does Payment type show more transactions than the totals?

It counts payments, not sales. A sale paid with two payment types counts once under each. The rand amounts still add up to your turnover.

Why doesn't Payment type match my cash-up?

First check **Show sales figures**: in **Exclusive** mode the payments have VAT taken off, and a cash-up never does. In **Inclusive** mode this report shows the sale part of each payment, without tips or change, for sales rung up in the period, while a cash-up counts the money in the drawer for the shift, tips included.

Why does a sale at 01:00 show under the previous day?

If your store's close of trade is after midnight, everything before close of trade belongs to the previous trading day. The asterisk on the date line and the note at the foot of the page remind you of this. **Hour of day** still shows the real clock time.

Where are the older dates?

**Date** shows the 10 most recent trading days. Everything before them is on one line, **Previous dates**. Run the report for a shorter period to see those days one by one.

Why are so many sales under Unknown in Cashier name?

Sales that nobody rang up on a till, such as kiosk, online and delivery-partner orders, have no cashier. A sale is also **Unknown** if the employee who rang it up can't be matched, for example after their employee code was reused by two people.

Why aren't exclusive figures lower than inclusive by exactly the standard VAT rate?

VAT is taken off each sale at the VAT on that sale's own items. Zero-rated items don't change, so a period with some zero-rated sales drops by less than the standard rate.

Why doesn't Total turnover match another sales report?

Check that both use the same dates and the same **Show sales figures** choice. This report's turnover is what customers were charged after discounts. Reports that show gross sales (before discounts) or that leave out delivery charges will differ, and voided sales are never included.
