# Cashup - Over Under

A side-by-side view of how well your cashups balanced over the last 14 days, 14 weeks or 14 months. For every payment type it shows the control total (the money counted or declared at cashup), the POS total (what the POS recorded) and the over or under between them, one column per period. For store managers and franchisees who want to spot a payment type, day or trend that keeps coming up short.

## Running the report

1

Open **Reports** for your store and choose **Over Under** under **Cashup**.

2

Choose how to group the figures in **Select your preferred grouping period**: **Daily**, **Weekly** or **Monthly** (see [Report options](https://help.aurapos.com/en/article/cashup-over-under#options)).

3

Run the report. You get one grid: a column for each of the last 14 periods, oldest on the left and the current period on the right, and three lines for every payment type: **Control Total**, **POS Total** and **Over Under**.

**Tip**Read across the grey **Over Under** lines. A single bad day is usually a counting or capture mistake; the same payment type coming up short day after day is worth investigating. Switch to **Weekly** or **Monthly** to see whether small daily differences add up over time.

**Only posted cashups**A cashup only counts once it has been posted, and it is placed in the period in which it was **posted**, not the day the shift traded. Shifts that are still open, or cashed up but not yet posted, are left out.

## Report options

### Select your preferred grouping period

How the cashups are grouped into columns. The report always shows 14 columns, ending with the current period, so this option also sets how far back the report goes.

Daily

Weekly

Monthly

Daily (default)

The last 14 trading days, today included. Each column is one trading day, from close of trade to close of trade.

Weekly

The last 14 weeks, this week included. Weeks run from Monday to Sunday and are numbered by the calendar week of the year.

Monthly

The last 14 calendar months, this month included.

Change it when you want to look further back or smooth out day-to-day noise. Nothing else changes: the same payment types, the same three lines and the same calculation.

## The report at a glance

Bob's Burgers Times Square

Over under report

For cashups posted in last 14 days \*

The date line says **days**, **weeks** or **months** to match the grouping you chose. The **\*** appears when your store's close of trade is not midnight; the footnote at the bottom of the page then explains that cashups posted between midnight and your close of trade time count towards the previous day.

1. [The over under grid](https://help.aurapos.com/en/article/cashup-over-under#grid): control total, POS total and over under for every payment type, one column per period.
2. [Notes at the bottom](https://help.aurapos.com/en/article/cashup-over-under#notes): how the dates work, and the close of trade footnote.

## The over under grid

Each payment type your store took in the 14 periods gets three lines. The example below is **Daily**; the real report shows all 14 columns, the mock shows the last five.

### 1 Column headings

One column per period, oldest on the left, the current period on the right. The heading depends on **Select your preferred grouping period**:

Daily

Day and date, for example **Wed** over **21 Oct 26**.

Weekly

Week number and the Monday to Sunday dates, for example **Week # 43**, **From 19 Oct**, **To 25 Oct**.

Monthly

Month and year, for example **Oct** over **2026**.

A cashup lands in the column of the trading day it was **posted**, in your store's local time. With a close of trade of 02:00, a cashup posted at 01:30 on Thursday counts towards Wednesday.

### 2 Control Total

The money actually received for that payment type, added up for every cashup posted in the period. For card and other payment types it is the figure entered at cashup. For **Cash Receipts** it is worked out from the cash count: cash on hand plus foreign currency converted to rand, less the till float and floats received, plus any cash paid out of the till during the shift (petty cash, GRVs, wages, floats issued and tips paid out).

### 3 POS Total

What the POS recorded as paid with that payment type in the same cashups, tips included. The line starts with **\-** because it is subtracted from the control total.

### 4 Over Under

Control total less POS total, on the grey line that starts with **\=**. A plus figure means more money was counted than the POS expected (over); a minus figure means money is missing (under); **0.00** means the payment type balanced. In the example, cash was R 15.50 short on Monday and R 30.50 over on Wednesday, and card was R 50.00 short on Tuesday.

### 5 A dash

A **\-** means there is nothing to show for that payment type in that period: no posted cashup took it. Today's column is often all dashes until the day's cashups are posted.

### 6 Auto-balanced payment types

Some payment types are set up to fill in their control total automatically from the POS total when you cash up (typically delivery partners and other payments nobody counts at the till). Their control total always equals the POS total, so their over under is always **0.00**.

### Order of the payment types

**Cash Receipts** always comes first, then the other payment types in alphabetical order, using the names your store gives them. Account sales cashed up on the POS show together as **Post-paid Account**, not per sales channel, because the control total for them is declared as one figure.

## Notes at the bottom

Under the grid the report explains that the payments are based on the date their cashup was posted, not the date the payment was made, so if you post your cashups the next day the figures will not match other reports for the same date.

If your store's close of trade is not midnight, the page footer adds: **\* This store has set the close of trade time to 02:00. Therefore sales between midnight and 02:00 are included in the previous days sales.** (with your own time). The footer also shows when the report was run, your store ID and the report version.

## Frequently asked questions

Why don't the figures match the Daily Cashup report for the same day?

Daily Cashup shows the shifts that **started** on a trading day. The Over Under report places each cashup on the trading day it was **posted**. If a shift is posted the next day, its figures appear one column later here. Over a whole week or month the totals agree once every cashup has been posted.

Why is today's column empty?

Only posted cashups count. Until today's shifts are cashed up and posted, today's column shows dashes. Run the report again after posting.

A cashup was posted just after midnight. Which day does it count towards?

It depends on your store's close of trade time. Anything posted between midnight and your close of trade counts towards the previous trading day, the same rule your other reports use. With close of trade at midnight it counts towards the new day.

Why does a payment type always show 0.00 over under?

It is an auto-balanced payment type: its control total is filled in from the POS total when you cash up, so it can never be over or under. Ask AuraPOS support if you want a payment type counted and declared at cashup instead.

Are waiter cashups included?

Yes. Posted waiter cashups are added to the till cashups for the same period, so each column covers all the money taken by the store.

Why can't I see my delivery partner's account orders separately?

Account sales that were cashed up on the POS are declared as one control total at cashup, so the report can only show them together as **Post-paid Account**. Use the Recon or Invoice Audit report to see them per sales channel.

What should I do when a figure looks wrong?

Open the Daily Cashup report for the day the cashup was posted (or the day before) and check the payment recon per shift: it shows which shift and payment type caused the over or under. If a cashup was captured wrongly, correct it there. If the POS total itself looks wrong, contact AuraPOS support.
